Books on Display

Do you display books?

At home Library

I love the idea of a cozy library at home, but I tend not to hang on to most books, once I’ve read them. Maybe if I had floor to ceiling shelves like the images above I’d be more inclined to?

The coffee table built from an old window and stacks of books is clever, but I wonder if that might get a bit cluttered (not to mention unstable).

I guess for now, I’ll keep passing my old books on to friends or donating them to Goodwill.

I know, I should get an iPad.

Speaking of books, what have you been reading lately? I’ve read quite a few books lately, from The Hunger Games books (hesitated, but so glad I caved in – loved them!), Mindy Kaling’s book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (she’s adorable, but some chapters drag a bit) and MWF seeking BFF, about the friendships after college (fascinating).

And for someone who doesn’t keep many books, I lugged an awful big box labeled “Books” across the house this weekend while packing. I have certain cookbooks I love and children’s books like Little House on the Prairie I just can’t seem to part with (it’s my favorite). Oh, and then there’s my high school yearbooks. Yes, I have them all. They’ll sit in my attic until one day my kids hopefully gets as much a kick out of them as I did from my parents’.

And…you read that right. I actually started packing this weekend. Wow, I have a lot of stuff.

What are you reading? Do you keep your books?

I loooove the second picture. That looks like such a relaxing place to sit and read or knit or whatever. Someday I’ll have a spot like that!

Quick story though… The house I’m living in now has a built in bookcase, in the hall between my bedroom and the bathroom. It’s really quite awkward placement, but that’s besides the point. I had all of my books, possibly numbering in the hundreds, organized alphabetically and by type (I have a bit of OCD) and displayed quite nicely. For about two years I had it all organized like this. Then something happened, I don’t know what, and they stopped being organized and just started to pile up. I even got a Kindle (which I love and am reading Mindy Kaling’s book on it right now, and I agree with you), but it still looks like it got hit by a tornado. My theory is… oh well, I tried!! 😛

I’m impressed that you had them that organized for two years Meg!
